GET INSANE NUKE DAMAGE WITH THIS CHONGYUN BUILD | GENSHIN IMPACT GUIDE
Deleting your enemies couldn’t get more exciting when using Chong yun and the only question remains – how will you build him? Probably the most confusing thing when it comes to Chong yun would be his elemental skill. And the most important thing you need to understand about it is that if you’re going to use him for more than just the initial damage from the skill, you want to stay inside the field to infuse his attacks with cryo, especially when it comes to using certain team combinations.
But what’s even more interesting is the Rimechaser Blade from the passive talent that will drop a spirit sword onto enemies when the field of the elemental skill fades away. And this will reduce the hit enemy’s resistance of cryo by 10% which gives you a nice window to unleash his burst attack. Speaking of which, the elemental burst Chongyun generates is what’s most exciting about him, especially if you get him to his final constellation but even without it, this exorcist will deliver a ton of damage and unlike any other character, almost with nearly any pyro status - the Melt elemental reaction can be triggered with all of the massive blades he drops.
And what’s even better – these blade sare very efficient at breaking Geo shields and constructs because the game treats the se attacks as “heavy” which gets assigned to Claymores or even some other skills. And that’s basically all you need to know when it comes to his individuality because unlike many other characters, he needs to act like a chameleon and adapt to his team’s composition while at the same time, there’s not much complexity to his overall playstyle because you could easily define him as a walking nu clear bomb that waits until you get the kill switch of his burst prepared.
But if we want to land those powerful bursts with our popsicle boy, we must first take a look at his equipment. When it comes to building Chongyun, there’sa lot of exciting options to go through and the main 2 ways you can go about doing this will be either by using him as your main damage dealer or as a support. Now luckily, when looking at his weapon arsenal, all of the choices hold nearly identical value to both of his roles. And the two easiest choices to go for, would be either Serpent Spine or Black cliff Slasher that are basically used for the single purpose of utilizing their advantageous substats and getting anywhere between 50-70% of critical rating is a sweet spot before taking into consideration other things like team mate or resonance bonuses that could further improve this particular stat.
And as for the critical damage – the sky is the limit usually and while it’s a good rule to follow the 2:1 ratio of critical damage to rate, you should keep in mind this is reserved for players who are still working towards obtaining the previously mentioned critical rating. Now if you can’t get one of these weapons or would like to go for an alternative solution, the newly released Lithic Blade is actually a decent choice but it will require you to have team mates from Liyue so you can get more stat boosts from the passive. But what’s awesome about claymore characters is that they actually have access to some of the most friendly f2p weapon choices and the first option would be the max refined Debate Club that you can later on upgrade it with Prototype Archaic after you get it past 2nd refinement level. Finally, if you’re lucky enough and have obtained a 5-star weapon, then
Wolf’s Gravestone or Skyward Pride are both excellent choices with the Gravestone serving as a great team damage booster. Moving over to his artifacts, if you’re going to use Chongyun as your main damage dealer, then there’s nothing better than a full Gladiator’s set but obtaining decent artifact pieces of the whole set can take a while so it’s recommended to go for 2 set of Blizzard Strayer and Gladiator’s while working towards the 4 piece bonus.
But you could also simply go for the full set of Blizzard Strayer’s just keep in mind that you won’t be able to maintain the 4-setbonus at all times and it’s actually pretty hard to keep the critical rate up with Chongyun specifically, however, if the substats on these artifact pieces are great, then there’s absolutely no harm in using this set instead. Now there’s a lot more flexibility when it comes to his support build and if you don’t have anyone in your team with full No blesse Oblige set, then he is the perfect contender for taking advantage of this set because his elemental burst is very cheap and has low cooldown.
Still, you can easily mix things up and go for either 2-set Noblesse with Gladiators or Blizzard Strayer’s with the latter option being the recommended one since he benefits more from having higher cryo dmg bonus. And if you don’t have the resources ye tor want to use him as a cheap support character, you can go for full set bonuses of either Scholar’s or Exile’s artifact sets but keep in mind you will be missing out on his awesome burst damage. And just like with weapons, the stat priority works for either of his roles which means you should go for ATK % on Sands, Cryo DMGon Goblet and Critical Rate or DMG on Circlet. The only exception to this would be Energy Recharge on the Sands if you’re not able to have his burst ready when the cooldown is over.
But for the sub stats, by this point you shouldal ready know the answer is going to be critical rate or damage since they are the best things for end-game while it also won’t hurt as second priority to go for more ATK% and then followed by elemental mastery if you will use him for Melt reactions. Now the last thing to optimize would be his talents and no matter what role you go for, the biggest priority should be his elemental burst because of how much value, damage wise it will provide.
And this might seem surprising to you if you’reusing him as your main damage dealer for normal attacks but the problem with this is tha the has the lowest damage multipliers for his attacks which is part of the reason why the most popular build everyone goes after is the support damage dealer that specializes in nuking enemies with his burst. So to simplify everything – critical rate and damage is the name of the game and obtaining the usual artifact sets that boost either his ATK% or Cryo damage are great but if you’re going to use him primarily for his elemental burst, then by all means you should get at least the 2-set bonus of Noblesse Oblige which capitalizes on his ability to delete enemies with the mentioned burst.
Before you can start your career in demolishing every enemy Chongyun encounters, there’s a couple of very important things you need to understand when it comes to using him in certain team compositions. Now since the game has been released, there’stwo very strong team builds Chongyun excels at and it’s the Shatter combo if you’reusing him as your main damage dealer or the Melt reaction team comp that’s based around his elemental burst. And for the first option, the core member of this team has to be Xingqiu which lets you take advantage of the Shatter and Freezere actions that basically turns Chongyun into a conduit that channels all of the attacks because a lot of the time it will be Xingiu’s swords that are dealing the majority of damage.
And for the remaining team mates, you couldeasily go for an additional cryo character like Kaeya or a shield breaker if you’redoing Spiral Abyss and then either Geo or Anemo character with Viridescent or ArchaicPetra artifact set. But while Shatter Freeze is all about sustained damage, the more explosive version of Melt involves using pyro together with Chongyunto setup very powerful burst damage and the best team composition in achieving this involvesusing Bennett, Xiang ling and Sucrose. Besides the two obvious pyro characters, thema in reason why you want to use Sucrose over Venti is mainly because she will also boost Chongyun’s elemental mastery which will result in bigger Melt damage.
But of course, if you have Venti, then heoffers a lot more crowd control than then shy alchemist girl. However, Chongyun still remains as a top choice for delivering awesome support damage and he works exceptionally well together with Diluc or Hu Tao but this also comes as a double edged sword because his elemental skill willhave a negative impact on your melee characters who rely on dealing physical damage because overriding their attacks with cryo is not going to be beneficial so keep this in mind when adding him to your team.
Finally, if you have his 2nd constellationun locked, then you will reduce your team mates and even co-op players cooldowns and all you have to do is make sure they stay inside the field of the elemental skill when using their abilities. And this is very good strategy to go for those who use Hu Tao or Childe which heavily rely on their elemental skills. So in short – the two most popular team choices when using the beloved popsicle boy is either the Shatter Freeze or Melt compositions and while the first one requires you to use Chongyun as your main damage dealer, you can easily achieve the Melt combo by simply using him as your support damage dealer.
There’s something about Chongyun’s sky blue hair and his passion for deleting enemies with his burst that’s just hard to pass up when building a team. Overall, the biggest selling point to use Chongyun in your gameplay would be his elemental burst thanks to its low cost/ low cooldown not to mention you can amplify it with Melt reaction that can be pretty much repeated every time the burst is ready. And not only that, but it also breaks enemygeo shields and structures which is a luxury to have especially since you’re already advantageous against electro enemies.
Then there’s also the fact he can work well together with certain pyro damage dealers or if you like to keep your enemies under control, then the Shatter Freeze combo is also there waiting to be utilized. However, what makes him strong in these team compositions also comes back as a drawback because the Cryo infusion from his elemental skill will reduce your damage output if you’re using physical melee damage dealers. Speaking of physical attacks, Chongyun has the lowest damage multipliers out of all claymore users when it comes to using his normal attacks, in fact, even some of the catalysts beat him in that department, not to mention the attacks animations are clunky and can put you in danger if you’re not used to them.
Still, he already delivers a lot just from his Melting attacks and he will only become more crucial once we finally get some cryomelee damage dealers and even more pyro characters. Working as a full-time exorcist is not an easy job for Chongyun and the same applies to producing these kinds of videos and you can help us by subscribing and enabling the notifications from the bell icon while also not forgetting to gently press the like button.
